Introduction

Green Resilient and Inclusive Development has become a prime driving force towards sustainable development across the world. The economy of Bangladesh is now on a pick which has been moving towards nearly hitting the target for becoming a middle-income economy and for attaining so, the development of business sectors is unavoidable. Realizing synergies between inclusion and greening requires innovating technologies, products and services, and, ultimately, business models. GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh has taken an initiative to develop the responsible business enterprises that aim to bring about both green and inclusive innovations. The latter play a key role in supporting the efforts of the different types of organizations involved in marked based inclusive and green innovations.

Firstly

Policy makers matter in providing an appropriate infrastructure for markets, including physical infrastructure, and also regulatory frame works that are stable to secure, yet fixable enough to allow room for experimentation.

 

Thirdly

Policy-makers can facilitate cooperation and partnerships between actors, and provide them with the appropriate learning environment to make achieving inclusion and greening a reality.

Secondly

 Policy -makers can influence market mechanisms by designing subsidy and incentive systems for green and inclusive innovations, helping mission-driven pioneers to survive during the pioneering phase, and allowing all players to realize market-wide strategies and economies of scale.

 

Green Inclusive Business Champions is a pioneering initiative and innovative platform for promoting green innovation & entrepreneurship in Bangladesh that also contributes in economic inclusion. Such ventures are clearly associated with 17 SDG goals and impact investments.

GreenTech Foundation and Cityscape International has established the “Green Inclusive Business Incubator “for the first time in Bangladesh to support innovators and entrepreneurs with business ideas that create environmental, economic and social impact on our country.

The competition attracted around 80 teams of young entrepreneurs from throughout Bangladesh.

The top twenty (20) teams/individuals were win the chance to make final pitches to an audience that includes private-sector executives, ministry officials, donors, and not for profit leaders at the National TV media of Bangladesh.

A Unique Competition

“Green Inclusive Business Champion” is a pioneering initiative and innovative platform for promoting green innovation and entrepreneurship in Bangladesh that also contribute in economic inclusion. Such ventures are clearly associated with 17 SDG’s goals and impact on sustainable investments. It comprises both ongoing ventures’ (small scale but adoptable or widely replicable) and ideas that are contributing, or have great potentials to contribute. In this kind of innovative business ventures, there must be attempts to integrate poor as customers or suppliers/distributors.

  • Recognizing ‘green-inclusive business ventures and ideas’ as part of promoting green and inclusive growth.
  • Helping ‘green -inclusive business ventures and ideas’ to draw support of the policy makers and financing institutions.
  • Drawing attention of the policymakers to stimulate ‘green-inclusive business ventures and ideas’ for attaining SDG goals.

What are the Eligible Businesses/Business Ideas

The competition is open to all Environmentally Sustainable Business Activi­ties/Ventures/Business Ideas (Individual/ Group of Individuals/organization) fall in the category of Micro and Small Enterprises [Goods and/or Services] in any economic sector that contribute to the achievement of the one or more than one of the following Sustainable Development Goals/Targets/Concerns. Business Activ­ities/Ventures/Business Ideas are expected to support the role of businesses in engaging local inhabitants, based on local resource utilization, reviving production traditions, and engaging local markets

Vision of the Initiative

Integrating ‘green inclusive business’ ventures and ideas to the national economy and international platforms for enhancing inclusive and green growth of Bangladesh.

Phases of the Ventures Included

  • Starting Phase: Ideas on Business start-ups that intend to apply green-inclusive approach.
  • Adoption Phase: Small and micro enterprises in the process of adopting green and inclusive business models.
  • Scaling-up Phase: Operational green-inclusive business models at a very small scale or localized that may be replicated and scaled up.
